Puppy training should begin the day you pick him/her up from the breeder. It is the time of premium opportunity, and the period when the dog is most receptive to learning, so don’t waste it. In an environment suitable to the puppy’s age, get them to be handled by and interact with a many people as possible, as well as experiencing a multitude of real life situations.
Current schools of thought believe that a dog will learn, and need to be taught, much of what is necessary during it’s first 20 weeks of life. Time is of the essence where training is concerned.
At CCAG, our Puppy training classes are based on attendance for 6 weeks; aiming to cover a variety topics, including socialisation, walking, control positions, praise & reward, recall, responsibility, play, food manners etc.
All these, and more, are designed to prepare you and your puppy for life within the family, and as part of the wider community; incorporating good manners and socially acceptable behaviour. As a Kennel Club Listed Club, we also assess Puppies for the Good Citizen Dog Scheme Puppy Foundation Award.
Puppy training at CCAG is flexible, as you are not constrained by course dates. We run a rolling session of classes that enable you and your puppy to join and get started as soon as your vaccination timings permit.
We understand that modern day life means that consecutive weekly attendance may not always be possible, and will not penalise you for that. 6 weeks Puppy training tuition means just that.
What remains vital, is that you are practising regularly and consistently in order to achieve success at the training methods you have been shown.
Classes are 45 minutes long, and will consist for the most part,of practical exercises, although there will be an element of theory and discussion.
At the end of your 6 lessons, we will discuss jointly how the training has gone and whether you wish to take training further with the opportunity to continue with our Beginner’s Obedience Classes.
Puppy Training Classes take place at 5.30pm & 6.30pm on a Monday evening, at our indoor training venue at The Raptor Foundation, St Ives Road, Woodhurst.
